My sister’s birthday is coming up on April 22nd, 2 days after the new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon versions come out. She wants me to get those for her, and I said, “Maybe I will, maybe I won’t.” Then she kept saying maybe I will or yes I will or else. That’s what pisses me off, her obsession. I mean, I like Pokemon games, but I’m not obsessed with it. She’ll basically see something or play something and then become obsessed with it. First it’s Men in Black I and II, then it’s Mario, then it’s Pokemon. And currently along with Pokemon, it’s always playing practice in solo on Super Smash Bros Brawl. I don’t know what’s wrong; I understand her liking stuff. But she becomes possessed to it and it always seems to creep me out. Since SSBB is my game, I don’t always have to let her play it but then she throws a fit.

Something else she needs to settle, how she spends her money. It’s maddening. I mean, I’ve noticed after a while everytime she gets money, she just has to go out and spend it. Then she wants to get Nintendogs, about time. So she plans to save for that, then it’s pay day and what does she do? She goes out and spends it on Pokemon crap. Then she wants me to get her the game, and I say no, then she gets all pissed. It’s madness. She needs some help. Like every single morning, she might get some yogurt and call it breakfast, then spend as much of the morning as she can playing her Nintendo DS. And everytime something happens to it, she just screams, “WHERE THE HELL IS MY DS!?” and then blames me everytime.

On the other hand, I got Pokemon Diamond from her for like, $5 after she payed $30. Well, then she wanted it back so I gave her another $10 and then I kept it. So I payed 1/2 the full price to get the Diamond version. And I bet you $15 (I want it back) that she went out and bought more trading cards. She never uses them, so I get the good stuff and she always ends up with shit. Idiot.

Recently, EA has moved it’s deadline to May 16th, but while the deadline was extended, the share price wasn’t. EA lowered it’s Take-Two offer to $25.74 a share, but it was still condidered fair-and-square by many. Some analysts believe that if this keeps up, it is possible for EA to raise it’s bid to $30 a share.

Meanwhile, Mario creator Miyamoto is uncertain and maybe a little worried about Wii Fit’s success in the family because of diversed lifestyles and traditions. According to the CNET Crave blog at crave.cnet.com, Miyamoto noted that on average, American families are apart more often than those in Japan. A lot of families have parents who are seperated or divorced, so it’s tougher to predict the role family will play in the American response to Wii Fit. Miyamoto also teased about Wii Fit interacting with the DS. He has also said he is planning to work on the Wii some more, probably with his desire in the Pikmin series.

Lastly, around a week ago, the possibility of a new DS style coming out was announced by Enterbrain. These were just rumors, and they have been denied claimed that he actually told seminar attendees to ”continue to pay attention to the direction in which the DS is headed.”

It’s is amazingly tough to believe that it has been around half a decade since the last installment of Super Smash Bros debuted. It is also extremely tough when you watch a Press Conference and the game the announced was delayed 3 months when they guaranteed an exact date. That’s right, the game was announced at the Nintendo E3 2007 Press Conference by Reggie himself, and since then, it’s been such a huge buzz. Unfortunately, it was delayed for more than three months, but now that it’s out, every Wii owner is ready to get a copy of Super Smash Bros Brawl.

_

This game comes close to what it says, “The Brawl to end them all.” The objective during a Brawl is to knock your opponent (s) out of the park. Your damage is measured in percentage. The higher it is, the easier it is for you to get knocked out of the park. (The percentage goes up to a 999% max.) So if you’ve ever wondered which brother was better out of Mario and Luigi, this is the game where you can figure that out (unless Kirby comes with its final smash).

_

Now let me explain the controls. To attack another character, press… wait a minute. Figure it out on your own. No really. The game allows you to customize your controls however you want to. If that wasn’t enough for you, there are four different controlling methods. You can use the Wii remote by itself held horizontally, the Wii remote and nunchuck, the Classic Controller, or just don’t beat the classics this time and use a Nintendo GameCube controller.

_

There are also many other ways to customize Super Smash Bros Brawl. For one on Brawl, you can create your own custom levels and actually play on them when brawling with other people. Ah hem… with other people in the area. The only problem is that you cannot play your custom levels online with other people.

_

The character roster is packed and surprisingly overall balanced. There are a ton of characters, some of which have to be unlocked by completing certain tasks. The characters of course have a variety of moves, one of which includes a final smash. You attack a smash ball and if you’re the one to finish it off, then you get the final smash. You simply press the special button and then the character will do his/her final smash. Every character has a different final smash except for the characters from Star Fox.

_

There are a ton of different stages in Super Smash Bros Brawl. There are about, maybe more than 20 stages. If that wasn’t enough, there are also around 8 unlockable stages plus your own custom stages. The places to brawl are endless.

_

Do you have more than 4 people? Say maybe, up to 32? Super Smash Bros Brawl allows you to create your own tourney. Up to 32 can participate so it’s the real deal this time. You can also have rotation games up to 16 people, where basically, you rotate. You can even choose who gets out.

_

But you don’t have to have the house full of people to brawl with other people. For the first time in the series, there is online play! Yah! This time, there is no friend code hassle, sort of. As in if you want to brawl with other people and actually chat with them, you need their friend code. But don’t worry, you can just plain old’ Brawl with or without friend codes. Not only can you Brawl, but you can watch other people Brawl. That not may sound good, but if you are in the gambling mood, you can bet on who wins, up to 100 coins. But you will find the best experience using friend codes.

_

What if you are all by yourself? Well there are quite some Solo options. One of them for those of you who want to experiment with your player is Training. You choose your character and then a stage, and then there’s you and the computer player. Wait, why is he not moving? Well because the default is that the computer doesn’t do anything so that you can experiment with your moves. Simply put, you can customize everything that happens. Training is probably best for first time players. There are also events where you’ll be on a stage and you will have to complete a certain task on that stage to defeat it. It doesn’t end there as there is also the classic, just defeat enemies to move on. Lastly, there is a stadium mode where you can participate in a home-run contest to hit the bag as hard as possible, go through an obstacle course and attempt to destroy the targets as quick as possible, or face off against many enemies in multiman brawl.

_

There is also one more thing. Most every game deserves a story mode, and that doesn’t change with Super Smash Bros Brawl. The game’s form of story mode is the Subspace Emissary, which is still a side scroller. Pretty much all the characters from Super Smash Bros Brawl appear in this mode at home, like Donkey Kong in the jungle or Meta Knight in his giant ship. The Subspace Emissary is a very long adventure mode, which some of its components could have been done without. All in all, this is a new addition and experience for the Super Smash Bros series. It should take you somewhere between 8 and 20 hours to complete the Subspace Emissary. But unlike everything else in Super Smash Bros Brawl, the Adventure mode allows you to cooperate with another player.

_

It hasn’t been that long since Nintendo’s original successor, Super Mario Galaxy and Nintendo is still keeping the action with Super Smash Bros Brawl. Not only does this game have a great original soundtrack with tracks from all over Nintendo titles, but it has amazing graphics along with great animations and great looking characters. This game easily makes the Nintendo Wii a huge success. Every game will always come that everyone wants, some of which are good and some of which are bad and some are just plain old so last year, but this game is a good game that everyone wants where you get way more than your moneys worth and that you can actually take to parties and everyone will want to play it. Super Smash Bros Brawl is indeed a huge mark for Nintendo for the past and the future that will keep everyone playing for the years coming.

It was announced that there would be a white drum set for the Wii version of Rock Band unlike all of

the others. Many people when hearing this thought that this was tragic, I myself did. But I just got a picture of the drum set for the Wii version, and they actually look ok. I mean black would look better, but this isn’t as bad as we thought. Plus the pads are softer so… maybe take advantage of that, somehow.

By the way, unlike the other versions, the Wii version actually has wireless guitars. Well, a wireless mic and maybe even drums would be a lot better also, but hey. Wireless and rocking!

While we are on the topic of an EA game, I should mention the Take-Two deal. Take-Two is reiterating the hostile $2 billion takeover bid and the deadline for which EA will go directly to stockholders is April 18th, 2008 at 11:59 EDT. This is an offer which if headed up to stockholders would be unlikley to be refused. EA is offering over 50% what the company is right now worth. In case you didn’t hear, the offer was refused because of GTAIVs release and Take-Two is basically saying after about a week, the company could be worth way more than $2 billion or $26 per share.

Lastly, March video sales skyrocketed 57% at a record $1.7 billion when all sales are combined. It is easy to say one of the main sellers was Super Smash Bros Brawl, which actually hit sales of more than 2.7 million units, a majority of which were sold the first day of launch. Behind it was Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. You wouldn’t think of sales these high with the appearent recession in the US economy. Video game sales aren’t really the best source for the US economy currently, and that helps show the new reality that everyone’s a gamer.

The Nintendo Wii sold over 700,000 units in March with it’s friend, the Nintendo DS, running up at 698,000. Software sales were the #1 source of this major rise which brought in $945.6 million.

Windows was originally planned to go off the market in January 2008, but it was given a later death, June 30th, 2008. This means you might want to get it now or you’ll be stuck with those older versions, or worse, Vista.

Windows XP is still going to be available pre-installed on some computers, but chances are they will be extremly tough to locate. Nobody will be forced to upgrade to Vista, but with all the service packs and all that other shit coming out, you just might feel like Microsoft is bribing you to. Everything will keep working and product activation will still work after it XP stops selling, duh.  Some makers of labtops will be sold Windows XP because of compatibility until 2010, but everything around 2014 is uncertain. And even if Microsoft stopped product activation, the hacker community would guarentee make tons of tools to break through it.

You can still install XP on any computer with Vista already on it, maybe even run both at the same time. But XP is starting to reach it’s point in life and is probably going to be dead around 2016, if not later. Some day though, chances are Microsoft will have enough service packs and patches that some users might just try Vista, but face facts. That’s probably going to take a while.

So, I wasn’t at the Nintendo 2008 summit, but I did get some coverage. It did provide quite some future stuff that is coming out, including the popular debut of Rock Band, the return of the Kart racing series, and the new Pokemon myster dungeon game.

Rock Band for Wii was up to play at Nintendo 2008. The game isn’t much different from the PS3 and XBOX 360 versions. You still have Lead Guitar, Bass, the drum set, and the microphone peripherals. You still have not only the 4-player action, but you also still have solo. The guitars are set up the same besides being wireless and the drums are white. The pads on the drums are softer, and everything else is the same. Unfortunatly, Harmonix has had a major obtacle in downloadable content saying the Wii lacks a hard drive and they are still exploring it’s online capabilities. They are working with Nintendo on all of these growing pains, and the release date is still set for June 22nd, 2008.

Mario Kart Wii was also prevented along with the Wii Wheel. Mario Kart Wii does have a lot more than the last installment of the franchise, Mario Kart Double Dash!! There are definetly more stages and new characters including Mii support. The game has online play this time around that supports up to 12 players. Mario Kart Wii also supports 12 players on solo and of course only 4 locally.

As for the Wii Wheel, it is mostly a nice, plastic controller for the Wii remote. It does a fantastic job for making the race feel and is a must have accessory for all gamers. Nintendo always seems to surprise us with plastic controllers this generation.

The official release date for the US is April 27, 2008.

The new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game seems to pack more in a DS game considering more options for exploration in dungeons and an apparent bigger world. Nintendo also intended to make it so even after beating the game, you could still experiene continous play without repeating every single thing.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon will also be released in two versions, Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness. Both will feature online play. The story mode is still based around a human, you, who has turned into a Pokemon and are still trying to figure out the mysteries behind it. The release date is at April 20th, 2008.

More things than this were found at the Nintendo 2008 summit, but these were the major ones we thought were the most important. And by major, we mean they are most expected until around July. Many things could be found, still including Wii Fit, but these were the best of the best.

I am sorry my podcast wasn’t out last night. I tried to record it, but nothing would work properly and I unfortunatly had to delay it. It will be out within 12 hours of this blog post, which is by 8 AM EST. I will have lots of information, so definetly look for that.

——————————————————————————–

I was recently looking on CNET and saw a Prizefight, GHIII vs. Rock Band, and Rock Band won by 4 points. I almost perfectly agreed, but I really agreed on the ending when Rock Band won. Here’s proof.

There. Now I tend to always go to Gamespot and CNET, but I indeed need to point out that the Jeff Gerstmann firing did not help them out at all. Nothing against you CNET Networks or Gamespot, but why did you fire one of your best editors? Just asking.

——————————————————————————–

Lastly, reviews. I indeed do review games, and I will be doing that on this blog. I will be reviewing Pokemon Battle Revolution tomarow, so that should help the Pokemaniacs. Also, if there is a game you’d like me to review, drop me a line at mgast75@yahoo.com. I’ll see you all later, like in a few hours.

Right now, it’s almost 2:00 EST where I am. I am currently at school, and I sneaked onto WordPress to write this, so you are real lucky.

There is no possible way that I can get any video news from my sources; they’re all blocked for some damn reason. Oh well. But what I do know is that I am in Science working on a project for the science fair and I AM MISERABLE. Oh well, about 38 more minutes until I get out. I have to go now, but come back in about 4 hours and I should have another post by then.

Apr

Ok, I guess I can squeeze in time for one more post.

Recently, NOA president Reggie announced that a game would be returning for the Wii, and it’s one that every gamer will want to get for the holidays. The biggest clue he hinted was that it wasn’t a Donkey Kong game (THANK GOD!). So this has raised lots of questions as to what it is. Animal Crossing, Star Fox, Kid Icuras, maybe even Super Maio Bros? Reggie won’t say till E3 comes. Damn!

Rumor has that Nintendo could announce another DS at E3. An anlyst had reported that Nintendo has already finished another DS style that is thinner, has bigger touch screens, and thankfully no GBA catridge. That doesn’t mean it will be released, but it’s possible, so you might want to wait until E3 ends to get that DS you should but don’t have.

Lastly, ESRB is ruining all of the surprises. Ever heard of Castlevania? Well a new one is being released soon and the ESRB rated it two weeks after appearing on the USPTO’s database T for teen. Big whoop, right? Actually, yeah. What the ESRB did to ruin our surprise is they also revield what system it would come to, the Nintendo DS. See, take a look.

Damn you ESRB; not everybody likes spoilers. Well, at least we now know. Oh, one last thing. Ever heard of the game Excite Trucks? Well, I just rented it and IT SUCKED. Man! Well, at least I only had to pay $3 for 5 nights because of my discount, but it still wasn’t worth it.

Apr

Ok, so something big happened not too long ago with Nintendo, Nintendo 2008! Yes, they showed off future products and stuff, including Maio Kart Wii. Speaking of Mario Kart Wii, there was a 2 hour long video shot there. Why not look at it for a few minutes?

Ok, actually, you have to click on the link, but then you’ll be there! Come on, just watch it for a while, maybe even just five minutes!

Mario Kart Wii, Shortcuts from hey_suburbia on Vimeo.

Now my opinion on the Wii Wheel, it’s just plastic, but it’s plastic that holds the Wii remote in a beautiful way and with this, it will be easier to drive on those racing games. It’s worth getting, why not give it a shot? Plus I’ve been waiting for another installment in the Mario Kart Wii series. It’s overall been good. Double Dash really left people wanting way more, and this is the anwser. There are more cups which means way more races, some new characters plus this is Mii-supported. You know what, figure it out yourself. We will guarentee review this game and let you know how good it really is, so look for that. Lastly, podcast date. Yes, I have a podcast. I would have done it today, but my computer is having growing pains with Adobe, so I’ll wait for them to get along. So my podcast should be out tomarow. Look for it every Tuesday with one expeption being this week Wendsday. See you. I need to go to bed.
